July
31-August 3 Baltimore,
Maryland
The
torrential rains on Saturday night finally broke the oppressive heat wave which
had engulfed Baltimore for a week.
Unfortunately, it caused massive flooding in nearby communities and
considerable damage. The Inner Harbor
area was filled with muddy, brown water and debris of every sort from logs to
plastic cups. It was not conducive to
cruising as prop damage could easily result from some underwater object washed
offshore into the water.
After checking the
boat’s systems, David determined our steering system was once again low on
pressure. Glenn Peterson, a good friend
and trusted boat repairman, was called into service. His helper arrived and, with David’s
guidance, soon corrected part of the problem.
Glenn promised to come on Wednesday morning so we could make our
departure. We had been docked in
Baltimore for almost a month and once again had fallen in love in this great
city. Despite racial problems, economic
downturns, and urban challenges, it remains a vibrant, safe, charming city that
values its considerable historical, architectural, recreational, and artistic
gifts as well as its outstanding sports venues.
We are never bored in Baltimore.
