June 29 Sackets
Harbour, New York
The weather grew warm
and humid and we became more languorous.
David had some work to finish, I had reading to do, and we enjoyed
watching Sunday morning TV shows. We
stayed in Sackets Harbour another day.
The afternoon was sunny
but cooler. I decided to walk up the
small hill to the battleground site and attend the afternoon band concert. I joined a group of approximately 500 people
seated in folding chairs or on blankets shaded by many tall trees. The band consisted of twelve people, men and
women of varying ages, and played a wide selection of swing and jazz
music. The acoustics were
excellent. It was a free two-hour
concert and the band was obviously a favorite of the crowd who enthusiastically
applauded each number.
