August
21 South
Portland, Maine
Dave remained at the helm for the five hour
journey to South Portland. The journey
was uneventful except for occasional sightings of porpoises playing in the
water beside the boat. We are always
surprised to see them in northern waters.
Our
marina was easily accessible. We had
chosen to avoid the crowded areas in Portland as our goal was not sightseeing. We were pleased the iconic lighthouse at Portland
Head was clearly visible upon our arrival. The massive fortifications built to protect the harbor during the War of 1812 are a prominent feature of the area.
