26-27 Port
Jefferson, New York
After
a short day of cruising, Dave and David decided to make a lengthy trip to Port
Jefferson, New York on the northern shore of Long Island. Weather conditions were perfect as they made
an early morning departure from Sandwich (after adding fuel). Twelve hours later, they docked at Danfordt’s
Marina in Port Jefferson. Dave remained
at the helm throughout the trip and David took advantage of the time to nap and
work (probably more of the former).
The
marina is adjacent to a lovely and popular hotel and is situated very near the
bustling downtown area. On an earlier
visit, we were at the city docks and found it to be most inconvenient as the
docks were fixed, not floating, and tide prevented us from safely exiting the
boat several hours a day.
Port
Jefferson is an interesting and inviting place.
The surrounding area is an enclave of prosperity with old estates and
large homes. The guys were ready for a
“down day” and some good food. The hotel
restaurant had a lovely terrace overlooking the water and great seafood. A nearby Japanese restaurant served delicious
sushi. It was a wonderful choice for
R&R.
